Chain Link Fence Calculator

Quick answer: For chain link, divide fence length by fabric roll length (often 50 ft) for rolls and by top-rail stick length for rails. Line posts go roughly every 10 ft; every end, corner and each side of a gate needs a terminal post. The calculator also estimates fabric ties and tension bands.

Estimates for planning only — not legal, survey or engineering advice. Prices are the ones you enter. Confirm permits, property lines and post depth locally and call before you dig.

How it works

Rolls = length ÷ roll length. Top rail = length ÷ stick length. Line posts ≈ length ÷ 10 − 1. Terminal posts = 2 + extra corners/ends + 2 per gate. Ties ≈ one per foot of height on each line post plus one every 2 ft of top rail. Tension bands ≈ height in feet − 1 per terminal post. Hardware counts vary by brand, so compare against your supplier's kit list.

Worked example

Figures below are illustrative examples (2026-10-29), not quotes or guarantees.

Assumptions: 200 ft, 4 ft high, 50 ft rolls, 10.5 ft rail, 2 extra corners, 1 gate. Result: 4 rolls, 20 rail sticks, 19 line posts, 6 terminal posts, about 176 ties and 18 tension bands.
