Fence Cost Calculator
Quick answer: Fence cost is fence length times your materials price per foot, plus labour per foot if you hire out, plus gates, permit or survey fees and extras like old-fence removal. Enter prices from your own local quotes; this calculator does the arithmetic and shows a total and a cost per foot. It does not supply prices.
How it works
Total = length × materials $/ft + length × labour $/ft + gates × price per gate + permit/survey fees + other costs. Cost per foot = total ÷ length. We deliberately leave prices to you: lumber, vinyl and steel prices swing by region and season, and a number we invent would mislead you. Get two or three written quotes, or price a materials list from the fence calculator at your supplier.
Worked example
Figures below are illustrative examples (2026-10-29), not quotes or guarantees.
Assumptions: 150 ft, materials $20/ft, DIY so labour $0, one gate at $300, no permit fee, $0 extras. Total $3,300, or $22/ft. If a contractor quoted $25/ft labour, the total becomes $7,050 ($47/ft). These are made-up inputs to show the math, not market prices.
